Teeth Whitening in Edmonton
Do you long for the beautiful smile you used to have?
As we get older, our teeth accumulate stains from the foods we eat, the beverages we drink, our lifestyle habits, and the aging process itself. This can cause our teeth to lose their lustre and even look yellow.
Professional teeth whitening can provide impressive results. At Orchards Dental in Edmonton, we offer in-clinic whitening sessions and customised take-home whitening kits that can bleach away these accumulated stains and restore the bright smile of your youth.
It’s no secret that we live in a society that values a healthy, put-together appearance. If your teeth appear dull or discoloured, you probably feel self-conscious about them. You might even feel that they are holding you back from relationships or career success.
Teeth whitening can help you feel better about the way you look and help restore your self-confidence. Whitening is also a great choice if you have a special event coming up, like a reunion, important job interview, or even your wedding, and you want to look your best.

How Does Teeth Whitening Work?
When you call our office, we’ll schedule a consultation with Dr. Dennis George Anithottam so you can explore your options and determine whether teeth whitening is a good choice for you. In general, teeth whitening is a very safe procedure and can be of great benefit to most people who have the treatment.
If you and Dr. Dennis George Anithottam agree that teeth whitening will be an effective option, we will take impressions of your teeth, which will be used to craft your customised whitening trays or a convenient 30 - 40 minutes in-clinic whitening session.
We recommend a professional cleaning before you whiten so that you can get the best results. Accumulations of plaque and tartar can affect the results from your whitening treatment.
Dr. Dennis George Anithottam will give you specific instructions for whitening, and you will be sent home with your trays and whitening product in an appropriate strength. Wear your trays according to the instructions provided, and you’ll soon see a big difference!
Professional Whitening or Over-the-Counter Whitening?
You’ve probably seen a lot of whitening products advertised on TV or on the shelves when you grocery shop. You might also be wondering why you should come see a dentist for professional whitening when so many kits are available for a lower price.
While the kits you can buy in a store are cheaper than those you can buy from the dentist, there are actually a few good reasons why you may want to choose a professional product:
- Professional products come in a higher strength, so you can achieve more whitening.
- The tray provided in a professional whitening kit is customised to fit your teeth. This helps keep the whitening product on your teeth where it belongs and away from sensitive soft tissues like your gums.
- Your whitening treatment will begin with a professional cleaning so you have a fresh surface on which to start.
- Your dentist can determine whether a whitening treatment is appropriate for you.
- Your dentist can monitor your results.
Am I a Candidate for Teeth Whitening?
The ideal candidate for teeth whitening is those with yellow stained teeth. If you are affected with brown stained teeth, then the teeth whitening treatment may not respond as well compared to those with yellow stained teeth. If you deal with purple or gray stained teeth than teeth whitening treatment may not work at all and another treatment may be a better option for you such as porcelain veneers or dental crowns. Teeth whitening isn’t for everyone and if you are the following it is not recommended for you
- Under 16 years of age
- If you are pregnant
- If you have gum disease
