Invisalign in Edmonton
At Orchards Dental in South Edmonton, we see many adult patients who want to know how to correct their crooked teeth. Many of these patients would also like an option other than the traditional metal brackets and wires!
Our office offers orthodontic treatment with Invisalign, a system that uses a series of clear, plastic aligners rather than brackets and wires. Invisalign can correct a range of common alignment concerns, and Dr. Dennis George Anithottam can let you know whether you are a good candidate. Invisalign isn't just for adults, either. Teenagers, who are often sensitive about their appearance, can also use Invisalign to achieve proper tooth alignment.
What Makes Invisalign Different?
For many adults, their image is also their livelihood. Invisalign helps you keep your mature, professional image while you correct dental misalignments. The thin, translucent aligners fit into place over your teeth and are worn throughout the day. While the aligners are in place, they are very difficult to see – even from up close! Most people will never notice that you are wearing them.

Because Invisalign is meant to be removed for eating and hygiene, you don’t have to deal with the limitations that traditional braces can impose. Your diet won’t be limited, so you can enjoy all your favorite foods (just be sure to brush your teeth before replacing your aligners so sugars and bacteria aren’t trapped beneath them!). When cleaning your teeth, you don’t have to work around brackets and attempt to weave dental floss between your wires. Simply brush and floss as directed by our staff and clean your aligners daily according to provided instructions.
How Does Invisalign Work?
Dr. Dennis George Anithottam will plan your entire treatment from beginning to end and send this plan, along with digital impressions of your teeth, to the Invisalign lab, where your aligners will be crafted. Each set of aligners is intended to be worn for approximately two weeks before you switch to the next set.
When you first place a new set of aligners on your teeth, they will feel like they don’t fit quite right. This is normal! The pressure from the aligners will guide your teeth into their new position. By the time you are ready to switch to the next set, your aligners will feel like they fit perfectly. This is exciting because you can actually see and feel the progress as it happens!
Continue to see Dr. Dennis George Anithottam throughout your treatment so that he can keep an eye on your progress and make sure that everything is going according to plan. The aligners are meant to be worn for 22 hours a day, and taking them out too frequently could lead to longer treatment. If you have any concerns or a special event coming up when you wouldn’t want to wear your aligners, let us know so that we can account for this in your treatment plan.
